Writing for Astro Cactus in Zeku.

Astro Cactus is a clean, minimal blog theme with posts, short notes and tag pages. Zeku opens it as it comes, with no setup, and it passed all eleven checks in Zeku's theme tests.

Checked , against the theme's own repository.

Opening it

Cactus keeps its writing in a content folder at the top of the project, not in src/content, and Zeku finds it there from the loaders in Cactus's content.config.ts. The dashboard shows three collections: Posts at /posts/, Notes at /notes/, and Tags, which hold the descriptions Cactus shows on its tag pages.

The fields

In the frontmatter form, a post's title and description are required. publishDate gets a date picker, tags suggests your other posts' tags, and draft and pinned are checkboxes. A post's coverImage is a pair of fields, src and alt, and Zeku edits it as both: drop an image on it and Zeku asks for a description, saves the image beside the post, and fills in src with the path and alt with what you wrote.

Dates on notes

Cactus checks a note's publishDate as an ISO date and time, like 2024-10-14T11:23:00Z, and Zeku reads that rule from the schema, so a new note gets a full timestamp. Posts take the date format set in Settings > Usability.

A new post

New writes a post into content/posts:

title: "Your title"
description: ""
draft: false
tags: []
publishDate: 2026-10-06

A post kept in its own folder keeps its folder in the address, so content/posts/testing/draft-post.md is at /posts/testing/draft-post/, and the cards show exactly that.

What Cactus renders

Cactus adds admonitions, written as :::note, :::tip and the like, through a plugin of its own, and Zeku finds that plugin in its configuration and draws them in live preview.

Seeing your page

The site preview runs Cactus's own pnpm dev beside the editor and opens the post or note you're writing at its real address.
